The Institute of Laser for Postgraduate Studies at University of Baghdad concluded its summer training program for undergraduate students from various Iraqi universities, specializing in Laser Engineering, Optical Electronics, and Laser Technology Sciences. The program was implemented in accordance with the directives of the Dean of the Institute, Prof. Dr. Kadhim A. Adem, and under the direct supervision of the Assistant Dean, Dr. Saif A. Mohammed.
The program, which lasted for one full month, aimed to support the educational process and enhance the practical skills of students in related disciplines. During the training, students received a comprehensive scientific and practical program in the institute’s laboratories, supervised by a distinguished group of the institute’s faculty members and researchers. This provided them with the opportunity to get acquainted with the latest laser technologies and systems, and to develop their practical skills using the most up-to-date scientific methods.
The program included a series of intensive specialized training workshops covering the most prominent applications of laser in engineering and medical fields. These included training on laser applications in communication systems and modern optical welding techniques, as well as mechanical laser applications in cutting, welding, and engraving various types of metals using advanced laser systems.
The program also featured practical training in the field of medical laser applications. Students were introduced to modern medical devices, their operating mechanisms, and clinical uses, particularly devices used for burn treatment, tattoo removal, and hair removal, in addition to eye examination and intraocular pressure measurement devices. This contributed to broadening the students’ horizons and enhancing their expertise in the medical applications of laser technology.
This program comes within the vision of the Institute of Laser for Postgraduate Studies, which aims to build effective scientific partnerships with Iraqi universities and to qualify undergraduate students through practical training in an advanced research environment. The goal is to prepare scientific and engineering cadres who possess both knowledge and skills, and who are capable of keeping pace with the rapid developments in laser technologies and their applications across various engineering, medical, and industrial sectors.
