Under the auspices of the Dean, Prof. Dr. Kadhim A. Adem, the Continuing Education Unit at Institute of Laser held a workshop titled “Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism”. The event was attended by the Assistant Dean, Dr. Saif A. Muhammad, and a number of professors and staff.
The workshop, presented by Prof. Dr. Maisam Yasin Obaid, a lecturer at College of Education for Women, covered the concept of violent extremism, its intellectual, social, and psychological causes, as well as its negative effects on individuals and society. The presentation also discussed prevention mechanisms through promoting a culture of moderation, tolerance, and enhancing societal awareness.
The lecturer emphasized the importance of academic institutions’ role in instilling values of dialogue and intellectual openness, and protecting youth from extremist ideologies through media, awareness, and educational programs.
The workshop saw active participation from attendees through discussions and interventions that enriched its topics and contributed to exchanging views and experiences.
At the end of the workshop, the Dean presented a certificate of appreciation to the lecturer, valuing her valuable scientific efforts, and affirming the institute’s commitment to holding events that contribute to enhancing intellectual and security awareness in society.
