Under the esteemed patronage of Professor Dr. Hussein Ali Jawad, the Dean of the Institute of Laser for Postgraduate Studies, the institute organized an event spearheaded by Dr. Hanaa Sami Bashir, representing the Women’s Affairs Division at the Institute, in collaboration with the Women’s Empowerment Division at the University of Baghdad.
The event featured a workshop titled “Protecting the Family in International Agreements,” facilitated by Assistant Lecturers Faid Hadi from the Government Contracts Division and Fadel Malek from the National Centre for Population and Demographic Studies. The workshop was attended by faculty members and staff of the institute.
Highlighting the family as the fundamental unit of society, the workshop emphasized its significance in fostering societal stability and cohesion, echoing the principles outlined in international human rights agreements. These agreements aim to safeguard the family by upholding the rights and freedoms of its members.
Addressing the concept of the family as a social unit comprising interconnected individuals, the workshop explored key international agreements enacted post-World War II by the United Nations, African nations, and Arab countries. These agreements are geared towards eliminating discrimination and ensuring the family receives adequate social support and material assistance to fulfil its role effectively. Notable among the discussed agreements was the Convention on the Rights of the Child, emphasizing the importance of preserving familial identity and relationships except under extraordinary circumstances.
In conclusion, the Dean of the Institute of Laser for Postgraduate Studies presented certificates of appreciation to the workshop facilitators, acknowledging their valuable contributions and efforts in conducting the workshop.
