Under the patronage of Prof. Dr.Kadhum AbdulWahid Adem, the Dean of the Institute of Laser for Postgraduate Studies, the Unit of Continuous Education organized a workshop titled:
“Between Reputable and Predatory Journals: How to Distinguish and Choose?” The lecture was presented by Assistant Lecturer Tabrak Ammar Sabah, who highlighted the fundamental differences between reputable scientific journals that rely on impact factors and rigorous academic peer review, and predatory journals that lack scientific standards and aim to profit at the expense of academic quality.The workshop covered several topics, including the definition of predatory journals and their characteristics, classifications of scientific journals recognized both locally and internationally, as well as mechanisms to verify the credibility of scientific journals through global databases such as Scopus, Clarivate, and DOAJ.The workshop featured a valuable intervention from the Dean, who emphasized the importance of publishing scientific work in accredited and trustworthy journals, highlighting its significant impact on enhancing the quality of academic research and elevating the status of the researcher and the academic institution on both local and international stages.At the conclusion of the workshop, the Dean awarded a certificate of appreciation to Assistant Lecturer Tabrak Ammar Sabah in recognition of her outstanding efforts in preparing and presenting this purposeful scientific workshop.
