Under the auspices of the respected Dean of the Institute of Laser for Postgraduate Studies, Professor Dr. Hussain Ali Jawad, and among the scientific activities of the Institute is to keep up with all that is new in the field of laser in medicine; the Medical and Biological Applications Branch at the Institute of Laser for Postgraduate Studies has organized a scientific symposium entitled:
The role of laser in modern medicine
In which it has dealt with the latest scientific developments in the field of laser and its applications
The first lecture was given by the instructor, Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan, specializing in ophthalmology.
It is about the role of laser in correcting eyesight and the latest developments in this field, where the presentation included three main axes: The first axis / a simplified explanation of the clinical anatomy of the eye and its different parts, so that, the audience could get acquainted with the parts of the eye and their functions in an introduction to understanding the second axis.. The lecture touched on to how the eye works and the formation of the image, then, encoding it into a nerve signal, and then, transmitting it to the brain through the optic nerve, then, translating this code a second time to sense the image and by specialized cells in the back of the brain.
The second axis / refractive errors of the eye such as myopia, farsightedness and astigmatism; the role of medical glasses in correcting vision. The lecture was about the role of laser in dentistry
The third axis / the role of laser surgeries in correcting refractive errors and focusing on third-generation surgeries. The third generation and the use of modern femtolaser technology. Doctor Ahmed dealt with the uses of femtolasers in vision correction operations and the qualitative leap they constitute in terms of the devices used and in terms of results and safety measures for the patient.
As for the second lecture, it was given by the Instructor, Mohammad Ghaleb Razzouqi, who is specialized in dentistry. The lecture was about the role of laser in dentistry.
Where he explained the use of laser in the removal of benign and malignant tumors and its use with hard tissues and soft tissues
Among the most important advantages of using lasers in the treatment of gum and dental diseases. It causes less pain, less bleeding and a shorter recovery period
Compared to traditional methods of treating gum and dental diseases
The symposium came out with several recommendations, including training students on the correct and purposeful use in dental treatment, periodontal diseases, and treatment of temporomandibular joint diseases.
Introducing the dangers of laser and the resulting misuse and lack of knowledge and the consequent health risks that harm the patient, the dentist and the medical treatment team
Holding seminars, workshops, intensive scientific courses, videos, electronic lectures, distance education, advanced research in the field of laser, relying on purely educational institutions and not relying on dental centers and beauty centers to give these courses and certificates unless they are documented by competent authorities in reducing the medical risks resulting from Lack of familiarity and knowledge of laser and the basics of its devices, by activating the role of the Laser Institute and educational institutions in these fields
Finally, training higher diploma, master’s and doctoral students in the use of the latest specialized medical laser devices to provide the best therapeutic medical services in the fields of specialized lasers in the fields of dentistry, surgical medicine and ophthalmology, due to the best therapeutic services and their positive effects in serving patients and society.
In addition, the emphasis on doctors to use modern laser systems, which are internationally approved in performing surgical operations, as well as urging researchers and teachers to hold seminars or workshops to keep abreast of the latest developments related to the uses of lasers in modern medicine.
