Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hussein Ali Jawad, Dean of the Institute of laser for Postgraduate Studies, and aligning with the United Nations’ thirteenth Sustainable Development Goal to protect the environment and climate of the Earth, the institute hosted a workshop focused on afforestation and its impact on climate change. This event was held in conjunction with National Afforestation Day on March 12, an initiative started by Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani.
The workshop featured a lecture by Zainab Majed Hassouni, who leads the afforestation unit at the institute. Hassouni’s lecture explored the significance of afforestation in environmental preservation, highlighting its role in reducing air pollution, lowering temperatures, and cooling the atmosphere. Emphasizing trees as crucial elements in environmental conservation, she pointed out that afforestation serves not only as a method to safeguard the land, soil, and climate but also as a social and human obligation towards maintaining overall environmental balance.
