A master’s thesis was discussed at the Institute of Laser for Postgraduate Studies\/University of Baghdad, presented by the student Nour Al-Huda Talal Dawood Abdul-Samad, titled “Effectiveness of single session of diode laser on sequel of impacted mandibular third molar surgery”.<\/span><\/h6>\n
Supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Kareem dhahir and Professor Dr. Tahreer Nazal Al-Dulaimi.<\/span><\/h6>\n
This study aims to investigate the clinical effectiveness of a single session of photo-biomodulation therapy (PBM) in managing postoperative sequelae resulting from the extraction of impacted mandibular third molars.<\/span><\/h6>\n
The treatment protocol used a wavelength of 810 nm, a power of 0.5 W, in continuous wave mode, and an irradiation time of 180 s, with a total delivered energy of 90 J, applied as a single treatment or as an adjunct to the standard pharmacological protocol.<\/span><\/h6>\n
The primary outcomes of the study focused on monitoring pain levels, facial swelling, trismus, bleeding, functional impairment, and measuring the overall satisfaction of patients.<\/span><\/h6>\n
The two groups treated with PBM showed a significant reduction in pain, swelling, and jaw limitation compared to the group treated with medication alone during the early postoperative period (days 1-3) (p<0.05). No significant differences were recorded between the groups on the seventh day. Postoperative bleeding was minor and similar among all groups, and higher levels of patient satisfaction were recorded in the PBM-treated groups during the early postoperative phase.<\/span><\/h6>\n
The thesis was accepted as it met the requirements for the master’s degree.<\/span><\/h6>\n
