The Institute of Laser for Postgraduate Studies \/ University of Baghdad discussed the Master’s thesis presented by the student Ghadeer Raed Hashim, entitled: “Butterfly-shaped Mach\u2013Zehnder Interferometer for Tunable Fiber Laser and Sensing Applications, under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Dr. Sara Kathim Mohsen.<\/span><\/h6>\n
<\/h6>\n
The thesis aims to study the possibility of employing a dual-channel Mach-Zehnder interferometer based on macro-bending losses in a butterfly-shaped fiber structure, as a spectral filter inside an erbium-doped fiber laser cavity to achieve single, dual, and multi-wavelength tunable operation, as well as its use as a dual-channel optical sensor for measuring sodium chloride and sucrose concentrations based on refractive index changes.<\/span><\/h6>\n
<\/h6>\n
The results showed the efficiency of the proposed structure in tunable fiber laser applications and optical sensing systems, and the thesis was accepted as meeting the requirements for the award of the Master’s degree, and the student was awarded the Master’s degree with a grade of (Excellent).<\/span><\/h6>\n
