A discussion of the Master’s thesis entitled “Evaluation of the Efficacy of Diode Laser (810 + 980 nm) in Chronic Periodontitis: A Clinical and Microbiological Study” was held at the Institute of Laser for Postgraduate Studies, University of Baghdad, for the student Fatima Kadhum Salman, under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Layla Mohammad Hassan Al-Amari.<\/span><\/h6>\n
<\/h6>\n
The study aimed to compare the efficacy of diode laser treatment (810 + 980 nm) with conventional non-surgical treatments (Scaling and Root Planing, SRP) in treating periodontitis. The study evaluated:<\/span><\/h6>\n
<\/h6>\n
1. Clinical parameters: Plaque Index, Bleeding on Probing, Periodontal Pocket Depth, and Clinical Attachment Loss.<\/span><\/h6>\n
2. Microbiological parameters: reduction of Colony-Forming Units (CFU) of Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria.<\/span><\/h6>\n
<\/h6>\n
The study assessed clinical parameters before and after treatment, including Plaque Index, Bleeding on Probing, Periodontal Pocket Depth, and Clinical Attachment Loss. Microbiological assessments were also conducted to evaluate the reduction of CFU of Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria before and after treatment.<\/span><\/h6>\n
<\/h6>\n
The results showed that the treatment using diode laser with SRP demonstrated significant improvement in specific clinical parameters, such as Periodontal Pocket Depth and Bleeding on Probing, compared to SRP alone. A significant reduction in CFU of Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria was also observed in patients who received diode laser treatment with SRP.<\/span><\/h6>\n
<\/h6>\n
The study concluded that the treatment using diode laser with SRP provided significant improvement in clinical and microbiological parameters in patients with periodontitis after a three-month follow-up. Therefore, diode laser treatment may be an effective adjunctive therapy to conventional mechanical treatment for periodontitis.<\/span><\/h6>\n
